Israel Survives on Terrorizing Palestinian People: Syrian President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said the regime of Israel does not understand the language of peace or negotiation, adding that its existence in the region is based on terrorizing the Palestinian people and assaulting their rights.

He made the remarks in a meeting in Damascus on Thursday with a number of Palestinian faction leaders and delegates, during which the two sides discussed the latest developments concerning Israel's aggression against the Palestinian people.

According to Syria’s SANA news agency, Assad renewed his country’s firm stance toward the Palestinian cause as a central issue and voiced support for the Palestinian people’s resistance against the occupying regime to restore their rights.

The Palestinian figures, for their part, appreciated Syria for supporting the Palestinian people, saying the Israeli regime’s occupation of Palestine and its massacre of Palestinians prove that resistance is key to restoration of the violated rights of Palestinians and liberation of their lands.

They also underlined that Syria’s resilience in the war against Western and Israeli-backed terrorists has helped boost the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.

Israel has killed at least 230 Palestinians, including 65 children and 39 women, through its continued aerial bombardment of the Gaza Strip, which began on May 10. According to Gaza’s health ministry, at least 1,710 others have been wounded in the attacks.

On Thursday, the Israeli regime’s “security cabinet” approved what it called “Egypt’s proposal” for a ceasefire amid continued avalanche of retaliatory attacks from the Gaza Strip in response to Tel Aviv’s escalation.

The ceasefire came into effect from 02:00 am on Friday (23:00 GMT on Thursday), according to the regime’s announcement.

The Israeli regime intensified its attacks against Gaza after the coastal sliver rose up in protest in support of the Palestinians in the Israeli-blockaded West Bank, who had come under weeks of significantly violent Israeli assaults.
