Iran Congratulates Lebanon on Formation of Government

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian congratulated Lebanon on the formation of a new government, reaffirming Tehran’s support for the Lebanese nation.

In a message to his Lebanese counterpart, Amirabdollahian congratulated Lebanon on the formation of its new government, describing it as a major step in overcoming the problems and fulfilling the wishes of the Lebanese nation.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that peace and stability in Lebanon have been achieved through a democratic approach and in light of domestic consensus and solidarity and without foreign interference,” the Iranian top diplomat added.

The people of Lebanon, who have celebrated stellar achievements in the course of resistance against terrorism, occupation and Takfiri activities by supporting the Lebanese army and resistance, are capable of addressing their problems by themselves and will move towards prosperity and progress, Amirabdollahian underlined.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will stand by the Lebanese nation and government forever and expresses its readiness, like in the past, for the promotion of relations in all fields,” the foreign minister concluded.

Lebanon’s new government won a vote of confidence on Monday for a policy program that aims to remedy an economic crisis.

The cabinet won the vote with a majority of 85 over 15.

The program drawn up by Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s government promises to revive talks with the International Monetary Fund and initiate reforms.
