Coronavirus Death Toll in Iran Soars Past 120,000

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran has exceeded 120,000, according to the Health Ministry.

The figures released by the Iranian Health Ministry on Wednesday show that the coronavirus has taken the lives of 272 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020 to 120,160.

According to the statistics, 13,271 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported across the country over the past 24 hours, with 1,891 of them hospitalized.

More than 5 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 5,572,900 who have contracted the disease, the Ministry added.

Some 6,000 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The Ministry also said that more than 37.74 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while over 16.06 million have received the second dosage.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 233 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.78 million.
