Iranian FM in Pakistan for OIC Meeting on Afghanistan
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian has traveled to Islamabad for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) about Afghanistan.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Islamabad on Saturday night, the top Iranian diplomat said, “The meeting of the foreign ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is going to be held in Islamabad tomorrow with the purpose of discussing the developments in Afghanistan as a serious crisis that exists in the region.”
He also noted that one of the other topics to be discussed in the conference will be the developments in Palestine.
“Naturally, while the Islamic Republic is attending this conference, it will explicitly declare its stances on the future of Afghanistan. We continue to push for the formation of an inclusive government with the participation of all ethnicities in Afghanistan, and encourage all parties to fulfill such important goal,” Amirabdollahian said.
“The formation of an inclusive Afghan government will help the establishment of political and security stability in that country,” he stated.
“People of Afghanistan are in difficult conditions and are in a situation that they need a lot of humanitarian aid at the beginning of the cold season. One of the other purposes of this conference is to support the people of Afghanistan in such tough situation,” the Iranian foreign minister underlined.
“In parallel with the conference, bilateral talks and meetings will be also held with some of the counterparts and the high-ranking officials of Pakistan,” he noted.
