Iran Navy Chief Deplores Destructive Role of Foreigners in Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Not only have extra-regional military forces failed to ensure security in the region, but they have been attempting to portray regional states as insecure places, Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said.

In a meeting with a group of teachers and cadets from the Naval War College of Pakistan’s Lahore, held in Tehran on Sunday, Rear Admiral Irani decried the outsiders for their adverse role in the region.

The Iranian commander said extra-regional forces have failed to ensure proper security in regional countries, but at the same time seek to portray the region as unsafe and depict regional countries as impotent.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the commander hailed the military interaction between Iran and Pakistan, stressing the need for regional countries to share experiences and decide their own fate through synergy.

During a visit to Islamabad in October 2021, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri held meetings with top Pakistani commanders to weigh plans for the enhancement of naval cooperation between the two neighbors.

Iranian and Pakistani naval forces have in recent years promoted cooperation and staged several joint drills in the Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman.
