Coronavirus in Iran: Over 1,600 Patients in ICUs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – More than 1,600 of the patients diagnosed with the coronavirus infection in Iran are in the intensive care units of hospitals.

The Iranian Health Ministry said on Saturday that 1,672 COVID-19 patients in the country are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities.

The death toll from the pandemic in Iran has risen to 139,971, as 54 more Iranians have succumbed to the deadly disease in the last 24 hours, it said.

Over the last 24 hours, 1,382 new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported, with 256 of them hospitalized, it added.

The Health Ministry also said more than 6.85 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 7,148,700 sick people.

The ministry added that over 63.78 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 56.61 million have received the second dosage, and more than 25.8 million have gotten the booster shots.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 480 million and the death toll has exceeded 6.14 million.
