Iran Resolved to Clinch Durable Deal in JCPOA Talks: FM
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran reaffirmed the country’s determination to strike a good, robust and sustainable agreement in the talks on lifting the sanctions against Tehran and reviving the 2015 nuclear deal.
Hossein Amirabdollahian made the remark in a Saturday telephone conversation with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
During the call, the two foreign ministers discussed the latest developments in their countries’ relations in various political, economic and consular sectors, Press TV reported.
Touching on the talks between Iran and the remaining parties to the JCPOA, Amirabdollahian emphasized the Iranian government’s determination to achieve a good, strong and durable agreement for the revival of the landmark deal.
The Qatari foreign minister, for his part, underlined Iran’s logical positions during the JCPOA revival talks, stressing the importance of continued talks aimed at removing the sanctions imposed on Iran over its peaceful nuclear program.
In July 2015, Iran signed the nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, with world powers, agreeing to limit its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions. However, former US president Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the agreement in May 2018 and re-imposed unilateral sanctions on Tehran, prompting the latter to abandon some of the pact's commitments.
The talks on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal began in Vienna in April 2021 but were suspended in March of this year due to political differences between Tehran and Washington.
The talks resumed in late June in Qatar's capital, Doha, after a three-month hiatus, but failed to resolve the differences.
