Mali Sees Iran as Role Model in Countering Sanctions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The interim president of Mali lauded Iran for its political and economic achievements under the pressure of sanctions, saying his country gets inspiration from the Islamic Republic in standing against the excessive demands of foreign governments.

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in Bamako on Tuesday, Mali’s interim President Colonel Assimi Goita said the Iranian nation’s struggle with the cruel sanctions and its success in achieving great political and economic positions in the regional and international arena have become a role model for the Malian nation in countering the excessive demands of certain foreign governments.

Lauding Iran’s success in making economic and scientific progress, he called for the promotion of economic, trade and scientific cooperation with the Islamic Republic and voiced Mali’s readiness to host Iranian industries and business people.

For his part, Amirabdollahian said Iran is determined to broaden cooperation with Mali in various areas, such as the economic, trade, defense, scientific and technological fields.

Praising Mali for the fight against terrorism, the foreign minister highlighted Iran’s experiences in battling terrorist groups in the region, such as Daesh (ISIL or ISIS).

Despite being hit with large-scale cruel sanctions, the Iranian nation has managed to protect its political independence and make economic and scientific progress, the foreign minister added.

Heading a high-ranking economic delegation comprised of representatives from the private and state-run sectors of Iran, Amirabdollahian has embarked on a tour of Africa that will later take him to Tanzania and Zanzibar.
