Iran Condemns France's Hypocritical Approach, Interventionist Statement Regarding Recent Riots

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani condemned the French president's political accusations regarding recent riots in Iran and described them as an interventionist statement as well as an encouragement of violence.

Stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran's Constitution recognizes the right to peaceful demonstrations, the spokesperson said it is surprising that the president and a few other government officials from France have criticized the Iranian security forces' response to the violent riots in the wake of recent events in Iran.

This is blatant hypocrisy, Kanaani stressed, and it once again shows that human rights in the eyes of many Western governments are nothing more than a toy and a tool for advancing political objectives and meddling in the internal affairs of other nations.

France’s behavior against its energy sector strikes also prompted a response from Kanaani who stated that the French government's intervention in the strike of energy workers' in the energy sector of western country merit media attention.

Additionally, Kanaani added that the French authorities, including the government spokesperson, have threatened the country’s workers that they will put an end to the strikes by force in response to the country's labor strikes in the oil and gas industry.

According to the media, workers in France's energy sector, including those at oil refineries, who have been on strike for the past week, stepped up their protests over the weekend, further disrupting fuel supplies.
