Iranian Delegation Arrives in Saudi Arabia for Resumption of Diplomatic Activities

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian technical delegation arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday to resume official relations and diplomatic activities between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia, according to Nasser Kanaani, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The delegation will take the necessary steps to establish an embassy and consulate in Riyadh and Jeddah, as well as activate the permanent representation of the Islamic Republic of Iran with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, he said.

Kanaani stated that efforts will be made to reopen and activate Iran's missions before this year's Hajj.

He also noted that a Saudi technical delegation, which had arrived in Iran on Sunday to inspect their diplomatic premises, will leave Tehran for Mashhad tomorrow.

The exchange of delegations follows an agreement reached in Beijing last month between Iran and Saudi Arabia to restore their diplomatic ties and reopen their embassies after seven years.
