Russia to Invest in Construction of Rasht-Astara Railway

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Russian Federation will invest in the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway in Iran.

Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash on Tuesday announced the signing of a contract with Russia for completing the construction of Rasht-Astara Railway on the sidelines of the 14th International Conference on Coasts, Ports and Marine Structures (ICOPMAS).

Some part of the investment needed for the construction of the railway will be made by Russia, he said, adding that once the North-South Transport Corridor is completed, it will have a leading role in facilitating transportation and transit of the country.

Turning to the interest of Persian Gulf littoral states and northern neighboring countries in the completion of the North-South and East-West transport corridors, Bazrpash pointed out that talks with competent foreign companies have been put atop the agenda in this regard.
