15 Armed Drug-Traffickers Arrested After Clashes with Police in Iran's Southeast

ZAHEDAN (Tasnim) – Fifteen armed smugglers were arrested and 720 kilograms of different opium substances were seized after armed clashes between anti-narcotics police and drug-traffickers in the northern and southern regions of Sistan and Balouchestan province.

The commander of law enforcement in Sistan and Balouchestan province General Dost-Ali Jalilian said that an armed clash happened between anti-narcotics police officers and drug-traffickers, resulting in the apprehension of 15 armed smugglers and the confiscation of 720 kilograms of various opium substances in the province's northern and southern regions.

"The anti-narcotics police officers in Sistan and Balouchestan province identified several organized armed smuggling gangs in the northern and southern regions of the province who intended to transport a large shipment of drugs to the central parts of the country," the police general told Tasnim news agency in Zahedan on Friday.

"In response, the officers, as part of multiple operational teams, identified and arrested members of these armed gangs who were transporting the drug shipment in multiple passenger vehicles," he added.

He said that upon identification, the anti-narcotics officers swiftly halted the smugglers' vehicles, recovering two Kalashnikov rifles, and detained 15 smugglers.

“In the inspection of the seized vehicles, 720 kilograms of various opium substances were discovered, including 530 kilograms of opium, 98 kilograms of hashish, 71 kilograms of crystal meth, and 21 kilograms of heroin," he concluded.
