Orders for Iranian Drones Larger Than Production Capacity: Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of requests that Iran has received from foreign customers for homegrown drones is much greater than the country’s production capacity, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said.

Speaking at a conference on the role of the Sacred Defense in Iran’s national security, the top general highlighted Iran’s considerable progress in the defense industry.

He said while Iran was once faced with sanctions on the purchase of weapons, the sanctions have currently been imposed on the export of Iranian military products.

“Today, the (number of) customers of our drones are several times our production capacity,” Major General Baqeri said, adding that “major world powers” are vying to purchase Iranian weapons.

Iran has turned into a “big drone power” that is outperforming major world powers, the commander said.

In August, the spokesperson for the Iranian Defense Ministry said a number of Western and European states have asked to purchase Iran’s unmanned aerial vehicles.

The spokesman noted that Iran is prepared to export military drones after fulfilling its domestic needs, provided that “political and security considerations” do not apply to the customer and Iran makes sure that its drones won’t be intended for inappropriate utility.
