Iranian FM Travels to Armenia in Pursuit of Peace in Caucasus

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian traveled to Yerevan on Wednesday to hold talks on a series of pressing matters, including the efforts at peace between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Iranian foreign minister is going to hold meetings with senior Armenian officials to weigh plans for the expansion of political and economic cooperation between Tehran and Yerevan.

He is also scheduled to hold talks about ways to meet the current challenges in the South Caucasus region within the framework of the 3+3 Platform, which includes Iran, Russia, Turkey and three South Caucasus nations.

In separate telephone conversations with his Russian and Azeri counterparts on Tuesday evening, Amirabdollahian highlighted Iran’s push for the establishment of peace between Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan by employing regional capacities.

In the phone call with the Republic of Azerbaijan’s Jeyhun Bayramov, Amirabdollahian said Iran will proceed with its constructive efforts to ensure sustainable peace between its two northwestern neighbors.

For his part, the Azeri foreign minister praised Iran’s constructive stances, expressing hope that a final peace agreement between his country and Armenia would be signed in the near future.
