Iran Designs Lithium-Ion Battery for Electric Cars

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In a bid to help the country achieve self-sufficiency in the field of lithium-ion battery cells used in electric vehicles, the Iran Space Research Center succeeded in designing and manufacturing the first such battery cells in Iran.

Designing and producing the lithium-ion battery cells is one of the most important stages in the development of the electric cars.

This advanced technology is regarded as one of the overflow products of the space technologies that has been obtained by the Iran Space Research Center.

Generating 15 ampere/h electricity and 168 Wh/kg energy density, the battery weighs 320 grams.

High energy density, fast charging and discharging capability, long life, high efficiency, low weight and low spontaneous discharge are among other features of the battery.

Auto manufacturing industries are the major customers of this advanced product.

The development of electric vehicles in the country, generation of sustainable employment, prevention of capital flight, the possibility of exporting to neighboring countries, ability to design and manufacture different types of electric vehicle batteries, and also the possibility of developing technical know-how in manufacturing cells with the diversified applications are among the competitive advantages of this product.
