Iran’s Azarpira Wins Gold at Zagreb Open

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian freestyler Amir Ali Azarpira seized a gold medal in the Zagreb Open Thursday night.

He defeated Kyle Snyder 6-3 in the final match to win the gold medal in the 97kg.

Azarpira’s compatriot Kamran Ghasempour defeated Erhan Yaylaci from Turkey 3-1 in the bronze medal match.

“I had already thought about the final,” Azarpira said.

“I had practiced with the other guys [on the Iran team] for a long time for this competition. Last year, I lost to Snyder in the same tournament and the same final but this year, I was confident that I could defeat him.”

The Ranking Series event started on January 10 in Zagreb, Croatia with Freestyle, followed by Women's Wrestling, and end with Greco-Roman.
