Iran, Turkmenistan Push for Closer Cooperation in Oil, Gas Sectors

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Officials from Iran and Turkmenistan discussed the bilateral ties, promotion of cooperation in the gas industry, as well as the export of oil products and technical and engineering services.

In his two-day visit to Ashgabat, Iran’s Minister of Oil Javad Owji held meetings with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet for Oil and Gas Affairs Batyr Amanov in order to enhance cooperation in the oil and gas sectors as well as the export of technical and engineering services.

The Iranian oil minister was accompanied by CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Majid Chegeni, Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs Ahmad Assadzadeh, and an adviser to the oil minister, ILNA reported.

In a telephone conversation with his Turkmen counterpart on December 19, 2023, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi expressed his satisfaction with the considerable growth in bilateral relations between the two neighbors, especially the increased volume of trade.

Raisi also emphasized the need to implement the important agreements inked at Iran-Turkmenistan Joint Economic Cooperation Commission in the fields of energy, transportation and transit.
