Iran’s Refining Capacity to Increase 30% with Construction of Petro-Refineries: Deputy Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s deputy minister of oil for planning affairs said the country’s oil refining capacity will witness a 30-percent hike with the construction of petroleum refineries.

The Ministry of Oil has planned to construct petroleum refineries, Houshang Falahatian said, adding that the country’s oil refining capacity will increase to 30 percent after constructing them, rising from the current 2.3 million oil barrels to three million.

The necessary licenses have recently been issued for the construction of the petroleum refineries, he stated.

The deputy oil minister also pointed to the construction operation of Shahid Soleimani Petro-Refinery and said it will be constructed in Bandar Abbas in the near future with a production capacity of 300,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd), ISNA reported.

Increasing the refining capacity of oil from the current 2.3 million bpd to above three million bpd is the main approach of the Ministry of Oil taken in the current administration, Falahatian highlighted.

Earlier, the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) said that the executive operations of Shahid Soleimani petro-refinery complex will begin within the next few months.
