All Iranian Cities to Be Connected via Optical Fiber Network: ICT Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s minister of Communications and Information Technology (ICT) said all cities of the country will be connected with the optical fiber network system in the near future.

Giant steps were taken in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 19, 2024) in improve communication services, Issa Zarepour said, adding that his ministry will make its utmost efforts to offer quality services to all walks of life throughout the country in the current Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2024).

More than seven million households and businesses in more than 300 cities have so far been connected to the advanced optical fiber network, he said, adding that 14 million households and businesses in over 300 cities of the country will join the optical fiber network by September 2025.

He put the total number of cities in the country at 1400.

The optical fiber project in the fields of businesses and startups is the most important project of the ministry, the implementation of which will be followed up closely across the country in the current year, Zarepour emphasized.

Earlier, the ICT minister noted that more than 91% of Iranian villages with a population of over 20 households have been connected to the existing high-speed network in the country.
