Iran Asks Japan, G7 to Push for Gaza Truce
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran called on Japan and the other members of the Group of Seven (G7) to focus their efforts on the establishment of a lasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, describing the Israeli war on the Palestinian enclave as the root cause of regional crises.
In a telephone conversation on Tuesday, Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Japanese counterpart Yoko Kamikawa talked about a range of issues, including Iran’s recent retaliatory operation against the Zionist regime’s military targets, the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and the significance of maritime security in the region.
The top Iranian diplomat highlighted the necessity and scope of Iran’s military action, which he said took place within the framework of legitimate defense as a warning and punitive response to the audacious attack by the Israeli regime on the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
“Iran’s military action was highly precise and calculated, targeting specific military bases and intelligence facilities linked to the attack on the Iranian diplomatic premises in Damascus,” Amirabdollahian added.
Reaffirming Iran’s commitment to bolstering peace and stability in the region, Amirabdollahian said, “The military response against Israel’s aggression was a restrained and limited operation. However, should the Israeli regime engage in further provocative actions, Iran’s response will be resolute, immediate, and at its maximum this time.”
Pointing to Japan’s significant role as a member of the Security Council and the Group of Seven, Amirabdollahian said, “The primary root cause of the crisis in the region traces back to the Gaza war. The Islamic Republic of Iran remains committed to diplomatic endeavors aimed at securing a durable ceasefire, and we expect similar efforts from Japan and the G7 member states.”
The top Japanese diplomat, for her part, voiced concern about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the widening conflict in the region.
She stressed the significance of providing humanitarian aid to Gaza and maintaining ongoing multilateral and bilateral discussions to promptly halt the war and restore peace and stability to the region, the Iranian Foreign Ministry reported.
Recalling Japan’s unequivocal condemnation of the attack on the embassy of Iran in Damascus, Kamikawa stated, “Japan firmly believes that attacks on diplomatic facilities are unacceptable.”
She also emphasized the importance of preventing escalation and the spread of tension and conflict in the region. “We have drawn the attention of all parties to the consequences of escalating tension and conflict on the stability and security of the region, as well as the threat to maritime security.”
In conclusion, the two ministers expressed hope for the further development of bilateral relations between Tehran and Tokyo. They underscored the importance of ongoing consultations and dialogue to ensure calm, peace, and stability in the region.
