Protesters Gather outside Swedish Embassy in Tehran to Condemn Quran Burning

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hundreds of protesters congregated outside the Swedish embassy in Tehran on Friday to condemn a recent burning of a Quran copy by an extremist outside a mosque in Stockholm.

Brandishing handwritten messages bearing the slogan "The silence of every Muslim is a betrayal to the Quran", the demonstrators expressed their anger over the incident and demanded for the utmost reverence for the sanctity of the Holy Quran while vehemently denouncing any acts of desecration against religious sanctities.

The protesters were also seen setting fire to a Swedish flag while a large crowd chanted slogans against the Israeli regime.

The incident occurred when 37-year-old Salwan Momika burned a copy of the Muslim holy book in front of the Stockholm Mosque under police protection.

The provocative act coincided with the major Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha and triggered widespread condemnation from various Islamic nations, including Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan, Senegal, Morocco, and Mauritania.
