Iran Ready to Work with Egypt, ICRC to Send Humanitarian Aid to Gaza
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Red Crescent Society is ready to cooperate with Egypt, other Islamic nations, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to send humanitarian aid, including medicine and food, to Gaza which is under siege laid by the Israeli regime, Iran’s foreign minister said.
Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry held a telephone conversation on Tuesday evening.
The two senior diplomats talked about the most important issues of interest to the two countries, the latest developments in Palestine, and the war crimes committed by the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Appreciating the position of Egypt in supporting the Palestinian people, Amirabdollahian said, “What is happening in the Palestinian lands is the result of the oppression that has been imposed on the oppressed Palestinian people in recent months by the Zionist regime and the extremist and criminal administration of Netanyahu.”
Referring to the humanitarian blockade of Gaza and cutting off the supply of water, electricity, medicine and food to this region, he called for immediate action by Islamic countries to help the Palestinian people in Gaza, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Amirabdollahian said the Red Crescent Society of Iran is ready to provide the necessary humanitarian aid, including water, foodstuff and medicine, to the Gazans with the help of Egypt and Islamic countries and with the cooperation from the Red Crescent and the International Red Cross.
He also expressed hope that the forthcoming meeting of the Arab League would result in a strong message in support of the Palestinian people and condemnation of the Zionist aggression.
The top Egyptian diplomat, for his part, condemned Tel Aviv’s actions in bombing Gaza and killing civilians, while expressing his assessment of the developments in the region.
Shoukry further emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire and to stop the attacks of both sides.
“Regarding the sending of humanitarian aid from Islamic countries to Gaza, coordination will be done through the UN,” the Egyptian foreign minister said.
Israeli forces continue pounding the Gaza Strip for a fifth day, killing at least 950 Palestinians. The death toll in Israel has climbed to 1,200 people.
In Gaza, rescuers struggle to reach survivors in some areas. Humanitarian groups condemn Israel’s announcement that it would cut off food, water and supplies in a full siege of the enclave.
Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant has pledged to launch a ground offensive in Gaza following Hamas’s Al-Aqsa Storm operation.
