Esteghlal Victorious over Plucky Shams Azar: IPL
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Esteghlal football team defeated Shams Azar 3-2 in the 2023-24 Iran Professional League (IPL) on Friday.
In the match, held in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium, Mehrdad Mohammadi scored Esteghlal’s first goal in the 20th minute and was on target for the second time from the penalty spot in the 50th minute. Amir Hossein Moradmand scored the third goal for the host in the 76th minute.
Shams Azar’s Faraz Emamali was on target in the 83rd minute and Mojtaba Fakhrian made the result 3-2 in the 85th minute, four minutes after coming off the bench.
In Ghaemshahr, struggling Nassaji defeated Tractor 1-0 and Foolad suffered a 1-0 loss against Mes in Ahvaz.
Esteghlal leads the table with 53 points, one point above Persepolis.
