Iran Sends Shipments of Aid to Afghanistan after Quake

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran sent consignments of medical supplies to Afghanistan on Wednesday in the wake of a strong earthquake that has killed over 1,000 people in the neighboring country.

The Iranian Embassy in Kabul said in a message on Wednesday that Iran has dispatched two planes loaded with first aid supplies to Afghanistan after the earthquake.

It also offered sympathy and condolences to the Afghan nation.

At least 1,000 people have been killed and more than 1,500 others have been injured after the magnitude 5.9 earthquake rocked remote parts of southeastern Afghanistan early Wednesday.

The death toll has continued to rise throughout the day, as rescue teams arrive in the mountainous area around the quake's epicenter.

Authorities say hundreds of homes have been destroyed in the underdeveloped region.
