Iran's SADRA Building 2 Modern Ships under Sanctions
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) announced on Friday that Iran Marine Industrial Company (SADRA) will build two modern vessels in the country.
The giant national project includes two multipurpose 3,500-ton vessels with the transport capacity of 122 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) containers and two 4,000-ton Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off) vessels with the capability of carrying about 40 trucks along with driver, 198 TEU containers and the general goods valued at over $50 million, IRISL said.
The construction of the two vessels is expected to generate employment opportunities for 1,000 job-seeking people directly and also for thousands of people indirectly, lead to the activation of many small-scale industries, and result in stable transfer of technical know-how of shipbuilding in the country.
The project has been launched for the first time in Iran under the harsh and cruel sanctions imposed against the Islamic Republic.
All stages of construction of the mentioned vessels will be carried out by the domestic experts under the strict supervision of the Iranian accredited standard institutes.
