TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The chief executive of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) said that the country’s private sector is going to construct four equipped vessels to strengthen the maritime fleet.
The development of the maritime fleet is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, Ali Akbar Safaei said, adding, “As the volume of trade exchanges with neighboring countries is increasing, development of the maritime fleet and increase of the capacity of the ships in the Caspian Sea are the first priority of the ministry.”
Presently, more than 15 equipped vessels purchased by the private sector have entered the Caspian Sea, he said, adding that more equipped vessels will enter the Iranian ports through Russia’s Volga River in the near future.
The deputy minister of roads also said that the Iran Marine Industrial Company (SADRA) has started building four equipped ships.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Safaei referred to the projects inaugurated in the current administration and said Phase 3 of the development plan of Shahid Rajaei Port, with 18,600 containers, is one of them.
