Security Restored in SE Iran after Terrorist Attacks, Senior Commander Says
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The security situation in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Balouchestan Province is under control following a series of coordinated terrorist attacks, said Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, the commander of the IRGC’s Ground Force.
Speaking on Thursday, Pakpour assured that operations are underway to eradicate terrorist presence in the affected areas. He stated, "The security situation is back to normal in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Balouchestan Province. An operation is underway to completely purge terrorists from the areas targeted by them."
The attacks, claimed by the so-called Jaish ul-Adl terror outfit, targeted an IRGC headquarters, as well as marine police and a police station in Rask and Chabahar Counties simultaneously.
Pakpour revealed that the terrorist assailants were armed with suicide vests, and clashes in Rask have ceased. He added, "The operation is going on to purge the area (affected by terrorists) and the number of terrorists killed may increase."
Regarding casualties, Pakpour stated that five security personnel, including three policemen and two IRGC members, were martyred in the attacks. He further noted that 15 terrorists were killed during the clashes, with the potential for the death toll to rise to 18.
Despite the violence, Pakpour emphasized that normalcy has been restored in Chabahar and Rask, affirming, "Currently, the security situation in Chabahar and Rask is normal and there is no problem there."
Furthermore, the hostages taken by the terrorists have been successfully freed by security forces, according to the IRGC commander.
Sistan and Balouchestan Province, which shares borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan, has been a frequent target of terror attacks in recent years, directed at both civilians and security forces.
Iran's security forces have remained vigilant in protecting the border, successfully repelling the majority of assaults orchestrated by foreign-backed terrorists.
