Iranian Legal Association Condemns Quran Desecration in Sweden

In a statement, the Iranian association denounced the repeated insults to the holy Muslim book in Sweden.

What follows is the text of the statement:

The emergence of the organized insult to the Holy Quran in Sweden and the escalation of Islamophobia and anti-Islamic efforts in this country forced the IPLAI to condemn this heinous act and meanwhile, drew the attention of the world's truth-seekers to the following points:

A: The verses of the Noble Quran are in fact the luminous words of Allah towards all human beings, as it has been mentioned as the ‘reminder for mankind’ in this Holy book (Muddaththir/31). The teachings of Quran emphasize the spread of peace and kindness between all human beings (Nisaa/128) to the extent that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has introduced this book as the source of Allah's mercy and kindness towards all (Anbiyaa/107). This Holy book has repeatedly presented itself as confirming the previous Holy books, such as the Gospel and Torah (Ma’idah/48).

With this description, burning Quran, under the support of the Swedish government, is not only an insult to the sanctities of more than two billion Muslims in the world, but will also result in the effects of prescribing insults to other religions too. Meanwhile, the action of the Swedish government in prescribing this horrible act is a clear and undeniable example of spreading hatred among different followers of divine religions.

B: Such an action exposes the reality of Western countries in claiming the protection of human rights and shows how Western scholars have misled modern Western civilization in the Age of Enlightenment. In fact, the inadequacy in the field of western knowledge has caused the divine gift of freedom to a situation where, by making mistakes in determining the boundaries of freedom, it has caused much confusions and suffering for the contemporary man, and violates the freedom of opinion in the name of freedom of speech!

C: The question is why Western governments, including Sweden, are not committed to their legal principles in dealing with hatred and discrimination acts?! Isn't it true that Article 4 of the ‘International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination’ and Article 20 of the ‘International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights’ explicitly emphasize the prohibition of all forms of hatred against other human beings? No need to mention that the domestic law of Sweden itself also prohibits any discrimination and violence under the title of ‘Combating Discrimination and Hate’! Meanwhile, it seems that the inconsistencies in the behavior of the Western countries, which had prescribed insults to the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) and other divine prophets, in the name of freedom of speech, is a new war against Islam and other Abrahamic religions and shouldn’t merely be interpreted as a result of a deficiency in the field of law and legal issues. All a wrong approach to divine thoughts that have guided the puzzled man of the modern age and have given meaning to his life, while the number of followers of this school has increased day by day.

Now, all the freedom-seekers throughout the world, and especially the Islamic countries’ scholars, are invited to: Firstly, put an end to this anti-human and anti-Islamic practice by creating a global campaign, to hold the Western countries responsible for harming the feelings of billions of people around the world, and to take a range of political, legal and economic measures in this regard. Therefore, based on principles number 11, 152 and 154 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the IPLAI first of all, demands the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to pursue its legal duties in order to comprehensively defend the spiritual rights of Muslims, protect the united Islamic Ummah, and preserve human prosperity in the Global society. Secondly, while endorsing measures such as: requiring Western countries to improve the criminal deterrence system in domestic laws against agitators, the convergence of Islamic nations in creating restrictions for diplomatic representatives of Sweden and, filing complaints against judicial and security institutions effective in the occurrence of these incidents and their criminal prosecution, the IPLAI, as a scientific institution, is prepared to support in two areas of:

I) A professional discussion for all people who have different opinions about the dimensions of this issue;

II) Substantive support for pursuing this legal issue in international forums.
